I have been testing a few things after seeing one of my websites ranking on the first page of Google for a specific term. I wrote 2 additional pages with related content and linked to my first website from the 2 websites where I published the 2 articles. I wanted to see if it would give my website a boost in rankings. Well, the funny thing now is all 3 of my websites are ranking on page 1 of the Google SERPS. I think this is pretty amazing and shows that my websites #2 and #3 already have enough power to rank above the website they were linking to. The search term does not have hundreds of searches per day yet. It is actually a fairly new term with maybe 3 months history under its belt. However, the product behind it has a good life span ahead of it and so I am ranking high, early in the game. Once the product becomes more popular I should be able to benefit from having 3 websites ranking high in the SERPS. I still expect some movement and probably dropping off page 1 with one or 2 of my websites, but in general it seems like I am well positioned. If you have several websites and you are looking at something similiar, consider that this will only really work if they are topic related and that the articles used to place the link are on topic as well.
I was also promoting a specific product through the Buy.com affiliate program with the help of PPC Marketing. I found a few keywords which gave me huge traffic and very high CTRs – unfortunately not many conversions. The product is also sold directly through the manufacturer (I am being very broad and generic here to protect my efforts and findings). I have to check if there is a better affiliate program available somewhere that would allow me to use this keywords and my ads to redirect to a better converting target. If not – I just have to move on.
In general this reminds me that it is often so easy to use your existing virtual real estate instead of using outside opportunities.
