Plimus Sucks

by Christoph on May 3, 2010

I made the mistake to buy a product through a vendor who uses Plimus for the payments. In this case it was an affiliate marketing/SEO related product that I wanted to test and write a review about. Well, the product sucks (more about this later in a different posting), but what sucks even more is the payment processor Plimus. When you try to cancel a subscription, you need to fill out a form with your order number and your email address. After that step you are required to log in to confirm and to see the status of the subscription. Slight problem – how can you log in when you do not have an account and there is no option to register for one?! I have been trying to talk to the vendor I bought the software from, but I have the feeling I need to initiate a chargeback with my credit card company.

So, the lesson #1 to take away is to always use a credit card so that you can initiate a chargeback. Lesson #2 – if you ever sell a product and use a payment processor, pick one that is customer friendly. As a vendor you want to avoid chargebacks at all cost. It is a) expensive and b) a high chargeback ratio will get your relationship with the payment processor terminated. If you want to sell an information product, a software subscription – anything of that kind, think long-term. Sure, a nice blitz cash infusion is nice, but is it a sustainable business model if things go wrong at the payment processor?
